The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government led by N Chandrababu Naidu had Amaravati, which is just 20 km away from Vijayawada, as its new capital when it ruled the state from 2014 to 2019. After five years, Amaravati appears to have become a "ghost town," with hundreds of locals, mostly farmers, having had their aspirations dashed with incomplete buildings, abandoned projects, and abandoned machinery all over the place.
